Gathering of Intrepid Visionaries Establishing an Adoptive Home for Abandoned Neural Devices - GIVE-A-HAND.tech
Presenter: Kevin Kilgore, PhD
Professor, Case Western Reserve University
About the Seminar
GIVE-A-HAND.tech seeks to address a critical issue that has been recognized by the neurotechnology community at large: the lack of a strategy to provide long-term support for people who depend on advanced technology (particularly implantable devices) for their daily lives. Although this issue has been the topic at scientific conferences and government-sponsored panels for the past decade or more, no one has come forward with a viable solution to the problem. GIVE-A-HAND.tech was founded by researchers with more than 30 years of experience in the long-term support of individuals with implanted medical devices. GIVE-A-HAND.tech is a 501(c)(3) public charity with the following mission:
“GIVE-A-HAND.tech’s mission is to serve as an adoptive home for people with, or who could benefit from, abandoned implantable medical devices. GIVE-A-HAND.tech will enable people to gain access to, and keep benefiting from, these devices for the remainder of their lifetimes.”
GIVE-A-HAND.tech is developing sustainable strategies for supplying long-term support for the research community. Partnership with GIVE-A-HAND.tech is available to any investigator conducting studies of active implantable medical devices in which participants or users may need long-term support. This seminar will provide an introduction to GIVE-A-HAND.tech and will provide researchers with an opportunity to be involved in achieving a practical and sustainable solution to the problem of abandoned active implantable devices.
