About the Seminar

This seminar will present how anatomical outputs from the REVA project were used to develop a standardized, surgically relevant map of where organ-specific branches emerge from the human vagus nerve. Using a multi-donor human anatomical dataset generated through REVA, Bahadir and colleagues organized vagal branches into a functional taxonomy and mapped their emergence along its course through neck and chest. The resulting atlas shows that vagal branches are not randomly distributed, but instead form reproducible emergence patterns with important left-right, regional, and target-specific structure. The seminar will discuss how these patterns may help define anatomical windows for new approaches to selective vagus nerve stimulation, including zones where stimulation could potentially favor or avoid specific organ systems. It will also demonstrate the Vagus Atlas Tool, an interactive browser-based explorer developed to make these REVA-derived branch data easier to visualize, compare, and use for hypothesis generation.

After the seminar, the video recording will be available on the SPARC YouTube Channel.
